Raphael was my great grandfather. My father was Joseph, and my grandfather Xavier. Raphael died at age 92 when I was 11 years old. The photo was taken when his granddaughter Louise was home visiting from the US.

Mary Ida Doiron was my aunt. [Joseph’s sister]. She lived with us. She married a Landry. She taught at Monks Head School. She was supposed to be paid out of taxes but there was no money there so for two years she was not paid. From age 4 to age 12, my aunt would take me with her to school. By the time I was the age for school entrance, I had already learned from every grade.

“I was maybe seven years old when that photo was taken. So it is 86 years old.”

May clarified the relationships in this photo. Louise Doiron and Mary Ida Doiron were cousins. [Xavier’s sons Dave and Joseph were their fathers respectively.] Louise’s father Dave moved to Boston to work. Louise was born in the US and visited every summer.
