Main St Wongs Cafe copy

Main Street, Antigonish, c 1950. Photograph Courtesy of Mary Rose Wong

This photo was taken from an upper floor of a building on the South Side of Main Street.  Any speculations?   Many of the photos in Mary Rose’s collection were taken by her mother, Molly Wong.  Her unusual perspective allows us to see the Royal George in the background.  This photo of Wong’s Cafe was before the devastating fire of 1961, which took the lives of Junior Wong and countryman Charlie Wong.

We welcome any observations.  Note the absence of parking meters.  When were they installed?  Which of these businesses are occupied today and by whom?    We have lost many of the trees on College Street and behind the Royal George.
