The local news in The Casket of May 27, 1897, p. 8, doubled as a classified section:

“ C. B. Whidden & Son have been adding to their bicycle lines new ladies’ and gents’ bikes, and a new Dayton tandem. The tandem bicycle made its first appearance on the streets of Antigonish on Monday.
